For you progressives out there that preach constantly about "all cultures being equal" and we cannot judge any particular culture...what about this? excerpt... A 13-year-old Saudi schoolgirl is to be given 90 lashes in front of her classmates after she was caught with a mobile camera phone. The girl, who has not been named, was also sentenced to two months in jail by a court in the eastern city of Jubail. Aren't you glad they shut down this "illegal" gym for women? excerpt... Health authorities in Jeddah have shut down an "illegal" women's fitness centre attached to a hospital, closing one of the few venues where Saudi women are able to exercise, local media said on Wednesday. Although health officials have repeatedly blamed the high rates of heart disease and diabetes in the kingdom on poor diets and lack of exercise, health authorities said women's fitness centres were not allowed. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jZ-ReASUrtehiVwFEjds1A6FPiog Remember you progressives, according to you all cultures are equal so, beating little girls and denying women rights is OK, right? Matthew: Funny how you prove my point, as we, as a culture evolved and no longer practice that...but this bass ackwards culture in Islamic nations hasn't changed for thousands of years, and yet we are told that it is the same as us and just as valid and equal to us.. Ambivalent: really? Progressives don't say that? Then what about this? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080705181735AAcni2t oir this excerpt... Enter many American classrooms and you will find a multiculturalist curriculum that paints all cultures as morally equal. Take a course in comparative religion and you'll often see disparate faiths cast merely as equally valid (or equally invalid) competing myths. Of course, the preponderance of this phenomenon extends well beyond the walls of the academy. To lay claim to any kind of superiority on behalf of your culture or religion is considered very bad form in today's polite society. Dare to do so and you'll often be rebuked with the favored mantras of the day: "Those are your values, someone else's may be different," "Don't impose your values on me," or perhaps, "Don't be so judgemental." http://www.newswithviews.com/Duke/selwyn35.htm or this... I'm waiting to hear from the liberal champions of diversity on this one. Will they say, "Sure, we may not approve of beating one's daughter to death over a headscarf but let's remember that in other cultures they see it very differently. Why should we impose our parochial Western morality on others?" In Canada there may be judges crazy enough to let the murderer walk free. In the United States, I suspect we won't hear too much of this. The reason is that the American brand of cultural relativism is basically a fraud. It's a device to undermine and attack Western institutions and practices. Yet cultural relativism is quietly abandoned when it produces results that liberals don't like. http://news.aol.com/newsbloggers/2007/12/12/all-cultures-are-not-equal/... Read More »
