African samba: dance movement based firmly on African dance technique and style, in which the interrelationship between the drummers and dancers is central.

There are differing views as to the roots and styles of samba in terms of the music and the dance. Many claim it was the African slaves in the 1500s that brought the rhythms with them to Brazil.  Samba is said to evolve from ʻbatuqueʼ, an African musical style based on percussion instruments and clapping.

One of the great misconceptions about belly dancing is that it is intended to entertain men; historically speaking it has usually been performed for other women where the presence of men is not permitted.

It is a thoroughly feminine dance allowing you to connect with other women whilst raising confidence and promoting a feeling of ‘loving your body’.

Capoeira is not strictly a dance (is that a pun?) but it is an Afro-Brazilian art-form that combines elements of music and dance with martial arts and it's becoming increasingly popular in the UK as a form of fitness.

Its origins have been traced back to the arrival in Brazil of African slaves, around the early 16th century.  It's thought the slaves disguised the practice with music and singing to make it look like a game, as they were forbidden from training or fighting.

Ceroc, also known as Modern Jive, is a partner dance which merges together elements of Salsa, Jive, Swing, Lindy Hop, Rock and Roll and West Coast Swing - which makes it sound a lot more difficult than it is!  Although it draws from all these different dances, it doesn't have much of the complicated footwork associated with them which makes it far more accessible to beginners and (dare we say it) your average British male.
