The purple sprouting broccoli season is here and HerBuzz have posted a delicious soup recipe. As purple sprouting broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable, now hailed as having a number of important health benefits (along with Broccoli,  Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kale, Radishes, Turnips, Watercress and more...), I was interested to find out a bit more.

Recommendations for aerobic exercise are 1 hour moderate exercise on 3 or more occasions a week and joining a dance class 1 or 2 evenings can help with that significantly. The health benefits of increasing exercise are many and well known, but it can also lead to a reduction in stress levels, improved relaxation, stronger bones, (reducing the risk of osteoporosis), better sleep pattern and control of body weight .

The fat we carry around our waists is different to the fat we store everywhere else because it can increase our risk of developing diabetes or heart disease. If you do regular exercise you will start building up muscles and muscle weighs more than fat.

Not only is beetroot great for boosting stamina and making muscles work harder, it also contains potassium, magnesium and iron as well as vitamins A, B6 and C as well as carbohydrates, protein, powerful antioxidants and soluble fibre.

Each day 400 people in the UK die of heart and circulatory disease and, according to NHS UK, women are four times more likely to die of heart disease than of breast cancer.  But there are thing we can do for ourselves to change these statistics and it doesn't have to involve wearing lycra or going to the gym!
